Project 1: Symbol

The symbol shown above was created by Raymond S. Cordes for Class number 320. A summer coarse at SCSU taught by Keith Christiensen. The symbol was to represent my personal view on a social issue. I choose the importance of art in education as my social issue. My personal view is that art and creativity is extreemly important in the competitive world in which we live. I believe art should be taught as a viable career choice and our focus should be on respect for art and its worth in society. Students should have the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate art in all school settings and be allowed to follow it as a career choice if this becomes their goal.

The symbol repressents my point of view very well. It is a graduation hat comprised of an artists palette for the top of the hat and a paint brush for the tassel. I believe this represents the importance of art in education in the manner I intended.

Here is one of the investigation drawings which led up to the final symbol. To see more click on the image.
